The boys have been loving insects lately so I put together this Activity center for them. On the hook we have insect flash cards with cool facts on the back. I got these at the Target dollar spot and they are awesome!!! The insects are ones that we actually can find in our back yard. We have already captured, observed and released: A Katydid, Praying Mantis, Palo Verde beetle, yellow bellied bee assassin(not on a card but we found it online), Cicada, Ants, Crickets, silver fish and so many more! Every time we find and capture one we read about it on the card and talk about respecting nature. We never keep the bug for more then a minute or two.
I also made this magnet activity for the boys to put together. I don't have a pattern for this because I free handed it. I just drew the outline of a general insect and then made the parts different colors to coordinate with their labels.
Here he is all put together:)

Number Puzzle

I got this cardboard puzzle from the dollar spot at Target because I loved the little pictures! Once I got it home I realized that the pieces were too hard to get out without picking at it with my finger nails. I decided to turn it into a magnet activity instead. I have a pack of sticky back magnet strips from Walmart for 97 cents and used that to put a little piece of magnet on the back of each puzzle piece.
Caden new exactly what to do when he saw it! First he matched them all to the right number and then put them in numerical order. It's the first time he's done numerical order without me asking him to:)

New Color Mixing Activity

The kids loved our other color mixing activity so much and are so fascinated by the idea that I just had to do more:) I got the idea for the color wheel from Mama Jenn but I had to make it my self in paint brush and then print it and color it with color pencils because I don't have a color printer:(
The first step is to use the droppers(color coded with star stickers) to put one drop on each little colored circle.
Then use the white pick to stir each color.
Lay a quarter of a paper towel(I used Costco's so they are Big!) on top.
Now you have a pretty color wheel!
Once they have practiced mixing all of the colors they can use the backside of the mat to make patterns and designs:) I was inspired by The Activity Mom to make this little grid for them to practice their dropper skills.

Cool Right??

No What's Out Wednesday!

SO I'm going to be giving birth to a little girl in about 3 weeks. Actually exactly three weeks(C-Section). So I am in getting ready mode and school is on the back burner. I am still rotating out one or two things here and there as the boys ask for them but not too much. I will do one more What's out Wednesday right before I go to have the baby. I will be putting out activities that I know the boys love and require no help from me. See you then:)
